Kathy Griffin in Beer Nut Capital

Tonight I went to see Kathy Griffin live.

Within the first 10 minutes, Kathy had characterized corn country succinctly:

1. The biggest place in town is the hockey rink - and that's where the audience sat.

2. She got Beer Nuts in her gift basket.

3. The bad part of town is terrifying - if you're scared of 90-year-old grandmas.

4. There is one gay bar - "ONE, gays!" - in town.

I think that all of the local gays were at that show. All of them. I've never seen so many together in my life. I felt like I was home.

Local gays, where have you been hiding? You exist! (I thought I was the last of the species living here!) I've gone twenty years without discovering your whereabouts!

I felt a little bit bad for my dad. (But goodness knows he needed a laugh.) His conservative ears were ringing by the end of the show. I, on the other hand, laughed my ass off.

I can't wait to move to the city. Any city. As far as I'm concerned, the Midwest can suck it.
